Debate Competition

A debate competition was organized in the Primary Section of Gajera Vidyabhavan, Sachin, on the thought-provoking topic, “Social Media: Children Under the Age of 14 Should Be Legally Banned from Using Social Media Platforms.” The competition provided students with a meaningful platform to express their opinions, exchange ideas, and explore an important issue that is increasingly relevant in today’s digital world. With social media becoming a common part of everyday life, the topic encouraged young learners to think carefully about both its opportunities and challenges.

The students participated with great enthusiasm and displayed remarkable confidence while presenting their views. Participants were divided into groups supporting and opposing the topic, giving them an opportunity to understand different perspectives. Those speaking in favour of the motion highlighted concerns related to children’s online safety, privacy, cyberbullying, inappropriate content, excessive screen time, and the possible impact of social media on young minds. They emphasized the importance of protecting children and guiding them towards healthy digital habits.

On the other hand, students speaking against the motion presented arguments about the positive aspects of social media when it is used responsibly. They discussed how digital platforms can provide opportunities for learning, creativity, communication, awareness, and access to educational resources. Their arguments encouraged everyone to consider whether responsible use, parental guidance, and digital education could be effective ways of addressing online risks.

The debate was not merely a competition but also an enriching learning experience. Students learned how to organize their thoughts, support their opinions with logical arguments, listen attentively, and respond respectfully to opposing viewpoints. The activity strengthened their communication skills, critical thinking, public-speaking abilities, confidence, and teamwork. It also taught them the importance of respecting different opinions, even when they do not agree with them.

The competition successfully created awareness about the responsibilities that come with living in a digital age. It encouraged students to think beyond simply using technology and to understand the importance of safe, balanced, and responsible digital behaviour. The thoughtful participation of the young debaters made the event engaging and educational.

Overall, the debate competition at Gajera Vidyabhavan, Sachin was a valuable initiative that combined learning with self-expression. It empowered students to think critically about contemporary issues and helped nurture them into confident, responsible, and respectful young citizens.
