Makar Sankranti Celebration

Makar Sankranti, the festival that marks the transition of the Sun into Capricorn, was celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm in the pre-primary section of Gajera Vidyabhavan, Sachin. The celebration was thoughtfully designed to introduce our tiny tots to India’s rich cultural diversity in a simple, joyful, and meaningful way.

The educators played a key role in making the festival come alive for the children. Through interactive discussions, colorful visuals, and storytelling, the little learners were shown how Makar Sankranti is celebrated in different regions of India, each with its own unique name and traditions.

Children learned that in Gujarat, people celebrate Uttarayan by flying colorful kites and sharing sweets like chikki and laddoos. In Tamil Nadu, the festival is celebrated as Pongal, where people thank the Sun God and enjoy a special sweet dish made of rice and jaggery. The educators also explained Lohri from Punjab, where people gather around a bonfire, sing songs, and celebrate the harvest season. The celebration of Magh Bihu in Assam and Khichdi Parv in Uttar Pradesh was also introduced, helping children understand that the same festival is celebrated in many beautiful ways across India.

To make the learning more engaging, educators encouraged children to participate in fun activities such as paper kite making, coloring worksheets, and simple role play. Traditional songs and rhymes related to the festival filled the classrooms with happiness and excitement. The children enjoyed listening, observing, and sharing their own experiences with sweets and celebrations at home.

The celebration was not just about fun, but also about values. Educators emphasized the importance of gratitude, sharing, unity, and respect for nature, helping children understand the spirit behind the festival in an age-appropriate manner.

The Makar Sankranti celebration in the pre-primary section of Gajera Vidyabhavan, Sachin, was a joyful learning experience. It beautifully combined cultural awareness with playful learning, leaving our young learners with happy memories and a deeper appreciation for India’s rich traditions.
